Artist Statement
The Victorian Era, much like our own, was an age of extreme eclecticism.  This search for the correct veneer often put citizens well beyond their needs. The public rooms spared no expense, while all other rooms were frugally furnished and decorated, creating the illusion of more wealth.  I am fascinated by the coded surface of specialty rooms and the actions they supposedly contain - drawing rooms, trophy rooms, music rooms, a string of ever more intimate parlors.

This drapery and papery is a foundation for the world I create.  The viewer is placed within a fairytale interior, subsumed with horror vaccui.  This stage set of surface adornment houses bric - a - brac drawings dancing the melodrama of the domestic turning in on itself, the animalist rearing up within normally static objects. All the bits normally tied down with tassels and swags creeping out while the master of the house is away.
