Artist Statement
My photographs are aesthetic objects derived from combining traditional methods of photography with contemporary techniques. I am inspired by the photographs of Cunningham, Steichen, and Stieglitz, and strive to achieve a similar poetic presence with my imagery. With a vested interest in the Pictorialist era, I often choose landscapes, both urban and rural, to dominate my subject matter, creating a painterly quality that timelessly resonates.
Since receiving his BFA in photography from the University of the Arts, Marowitz has spent time not only pursuing his personal photographic work but also in becoming a central figure within Philadelphia’s photographic community. He is the founder of (PCPI) Philadelphia Center for the Photographic Image; a Philadelphia-based non-profit photography studio and teaching facility designed to promote and stimulate the medium of fine-art photography for youths and adults alike. Marowitz’s continued dedication to the photographic community combined with his discoveries visualized though his unique photography will unquestionably ensure him a place within the larger context of contemporary art. |
